# Audit report

> PLEA security audit, round 4, area A3: The market: PleaHook. PLEA is a sell-gated meme token on Uniswap v4 paired with IMD: anyone buys, selling needs a plea judged by a 30-seat IdentityMD oracle panel, approved pleas score season points for IMD and PLEA prizes, and every trade pays cashback in staked IMD through imd/acc's Stacker. Solidity 0.8.26, Foundry (cancun, via-IR), a Uniswap v4 hook, IdentityMD Intake v2 callbacks. This is the mainnet code, rehearsed first on Sepolia (launch.json on this commit has the Sepolia settings). Other areas of the same commit are audited by separate jobs; stay on this one.

> - audit/FINDINGS.md: findings already fixed or accepted. Do not re-report them unless the fix is wrong. Check that every fix marked fixed for this area is correct and complete and opens no new path (each names its regression test).
> - README.md (the design and every number), OBJECTIONS.md (Objection!: its Known limits and Decisions are accepted behaviour).
> - Build: forge build --skip test --skip script first (under a minute), then forge test --match-path 'test/{File1,File2}.t.sol' one group at a time (FOUNDRY_PROFILE=full for the invariant, adversarial and fork suites). Never one forge build of the whole tree: one slow via-IR solc job, over a 10-minute limit. CabalGate is 83 bytes and PleaHook 29 bytes under the EIP-170 limit.

> Context: PleaHook is a fork of POOL4's CappedBurnHook (Ethereum 0xc6c965bd164c483e87d0b550671798e9a3602840) on the IMD side: IMD as the quote asset, LP fee 0, the hook is the only liquidity provider and its liquidity is locked forever, trims burn 100% of the PLEA and the recovered IMD becomes an IMD-only buy wall below the price. Every trade pays 2.0% inside the swap: 0.5% cashback as staked IMD through imd/acc's Stacker (gas budget creditGas + a 1M reserve, plain IMD if the credit reverts), 0.75% to the owner, 0.25% to the season pot (pool liquidity once the Cabal is dead), 0.25% to pool liquidity, 0.25% of the PLEA leg burned. It keeps hourly price checkpoints for the gate (the price an hour's first trade found), each trader's cost basis and hold time, a 90-minute launch window (extra fee 70% to 0%, 5M PLEA per buy), the inventory cap ratchet (only down, at most (seeded - 900k) / 15 a day, never below the holdings or 900k) with trims, the wall placement guard (rises at most 400 ticks a day, drops at once), and the trader rule (hookData, else the router's msgSender(), else a plain-wallet sender; never a router, tx.origin, the Stacker, IMD, sIMD, the PoolManager or the hook).
> Changed since round 3: FINDINGS.md R3-A3-* (the shortage test uses the pool's own IMD; the 48-slot ring; ImdIsZero suites). Earlier: R1-A3-*, R2-A3-*. Since run 6: OWNER_BPS 75, CAP_DECAY_DAYS 15.
> Look hardest at:
> - v4 accounting: beforeSwap / afterSwap return deltas for exact-in and exact-out in both currency orderings, the fee on the actually filled amount, partial fills and refunds of unearned specified-side fees, ERC-6909 claims (retainClaims, cashback as claims, the first buy into an empty PoolManager), PayoutsToPool, nothing stuck in the hook beyond the wall reserve.
> - The fee split: the sum of the floor-divided shares never exceeds the IMD fee; the owner's 0.75%, the prize share routed to pool liquidity after the death, the burn taken from the PLEA side; what an outside router or a direct PoolManager unlock can do to any of it.
> - Cashback and the trader rule: a router that lies in hookData or msgSender(), dirty upper bits, the excluded recipients, the Stacker allowance per credit (never the wall reserve), the NotEnoughGas check and the 63/64 rule around the credit, the plain-IMD fallback, RecipientRequired while the Cabal lives.
> - The cap ratchet and trims: can the cap rise, fall faster than the daily allowance, fall below the holdings or the 900k floor; can a trim burn more than the excess or move the wrong IMD; the lastCapDecayAt / capDecayRemainder bookkeeping across long gaps; MIN_TRIM.
> - The wall: placement only below the guard price, the guard's 400-tick daily rise and instant drop, a sell that drains the pool's IMD after the death (the liquidity-free region), rebalance's reverts, WALL_THRESHOLD / WALL_MIN_FILL, settling a filled wall, fundWall from Seasons, wall IMD never leaving the pool.
> - Checkpoints and basis: the hour's first trade recording the price it found (T_PRICE_BEFORE), latestPrice / priceX96 views, basisOf after partial fills, sells and escrowed letters; the gate's executeSell path (gated sells only through the gate while alive, exact-output refused).
> - The launch window: the extra fee's linear decay, the 5M cap, seed once at MARKET_CAP_IMD (5,700 on Sepolia, 14,000 on the mainnet branch), the single-sided position, pleaIsZero in both orderings.

Four agents audited the code as it is at `e41e426`, each in one area (math, permissions, economics, control flow),
and a judge reproduced, merged and ranked what they found, then read the code once more itself. Nothing in the repository was changed or deployed.

## Findings

### 1. Low: A price-limited exact-output trade after the death hands the swapper a negative delta on its output currency; the net is only right after the hook's separate ERC-20 refund

`src/PleaHook.sol:514`

```
        if (specFee > specDue) {
            // No resolved trader (only after the death: a router that cannot name its caller): the
            // router is refunded, as it is the only party the hook knows.
            _refund(trader == address(0) ? sender : trader, specifiedIsImd, specFee - specDue);
        }
```

beforeSwap reserves the specified-side fee on the requested amount (line 462: amount * rate / (BPS - rate) for exact output) and returns it as the hook's specified BeforeSwapDelta, so the PoolManager credits the hook the whole fee before the fill is known. When the swapper's own sqrtPriceLimitX96 stops an exact-output swap after a fill smaller than that reserved fee, the swapper's delta on the specified currency (pool delta minus hook delta) is negative: on an exact-output SELL the router must PAY IMD into the PoolManager, on a swap whose purpose was to receive IMD. afterSwap repairs the economics by refunding specFee - specDue to the resolved trader as a separate poolManager.take (ERC-20 IMD, or ERC-6909 claims when the PoolManager holds less), so the trader's net is exactly fill minus 1.75% of the fill, but through two legs. Consequences: (a) a plain v4 router that reads the output as uint256(uint128(outDelta)), which is how the project's own BuyRouter and MsgSenderRouter and every standard router work, gets a 2^128-sized amount and reverts at take; a router using TAKE_ALL reverts DeltaNotPositive; only a router that settles a negative delta on either side (and holds an allowance of the output token from its payer) completes the trade. (b) If the router's payer and the hookData trader differ, the payer funds the negative delta and the trader collects the refund. Reachable only after the Cabal's death (exact-output buys are refused while it lives, and the gate's own exact-output fee sale uses the tick-extreme limit and reverts PartialFill on any short fill), so no funds are lost and no invariant number changes; invariant 19 says exact-output trades 'return exact deltas', and here the returned delta is not the trade's net and has the wrong sign. Merged from audit_flow and audit_math (the same mechanism). Fix: on an exact-output trade revert when specDue < specFee (the trader resizes or drops the limit), which is the minimal change since afterSwap can only return the unspecified delta; or document that an exact-output trade must not be price-limited and needs a router that settles both sides.

**Reproduction**

test/scratch/JudgeProbe.t.sol test_exactOutSellPartialFillAfterDeath (default fixture, IMD is currency0): alice and bob each buy 100 IMD; skip(DEADMAN + 1); alice, through a router whose unlockCallback settles both deltas (negative: transferFrom + settle; positive: take), submits zeroForOne = pleaIsZero, amountSpecified = +100e18 (exact-output 100 IMD), sqrtPriceLimitX96 = getSqrtPriceAtTick(currentTick + 2), hookData = abi.encode(alice). Observed: swapper PLEA delta -117448.02e18, swapper IMD delta -1.053711303130334204e18 (negative on a sell: fill 0.7275 IMD minus the 1.7812 IMD reserved as 100e18*175/9825), then the hook's FeeRefunded take of 1.7685 IMD; alice's ERC-20 IMD nets +0.714728644674446645e18 (98.25% of the fill), PoolManager IMD -0.7238e18, hook holds nothing. Expected per invariant 19: a non-negative output delta equal to the trade's net, or a revert. The project's BuyRouter (test/utils/Mocks.sol line 152, amountOut = uint256(uint128(outDelta))) reverts on the same swap at its take. Mirror (test_exactOutBuyPartialFillUnderFeeAfterDeath, same fixture): an exact-output BUY of 10,000,000 PLEA with sqrtPriceLimitX96 one tick from spot returns a swapper PLEA delta of -24161.64e18 (the buyer must PAY PLEA into the PoolManager on a buy, the fill being under the 25,062 PLEA reserved as 10e24*25/9975) and a swapper IMD delta of -0.0057e18; the hook then refunds 25,060 PLEA by take and alice nets +898.77e18 PLEA, the hook holding nothing. A buyer with no PLEA to settle that negative delta cannot complete the trade at all.

### 2. Low: The documented operational close of the opening exception (the owner's 2 IMD buy right after seed) leaves the pool's own IMD 1 wei under PAYOUT_RESERVE, so a quiet launch's first sizeable buy still pa

`src/PleaHook.sol:594`

```
            uint256 own = _imdIn(market, priceBefore) + _imdIn(wall, priceBefore) + retainClaims;
            bool asClaims = own < out && imd.balanceOf(address(poolManager)) < out;
            // The opening buys: while the pool's own IMD is under PAYOUT_RESERVE, a buy's unfunded
            // payouts join pool liquidity. No flag: a dust buy, whatever its fee, cannot use the
            // exception up for the buy that follows it.
            if (asClaims && buy && own < PAYOUT_RESERVE) {
                emit PayoutsToPool(out);
                (cashback, toOwner, toPrize, out) = (0, 0, 0, 0);
            }
```

THREAT-MODEL section 3 ('the launch owner's own 2 IMD buy right after seed ... closes it in practice') and README 'Fees' ('which the owner's own 2 IMD buy right after seed covers') rely on a 2 IMD buy to end the opening exception, under which a buy's cashback, owner and prize shares (1.5% of the fill) join pool liquidity. The exception keys on own = _imdIn(market, priceBefore) + _imdIn(wall, priceBefore) + retainClaims compared with PAYOUT_RESERVE = 2e18 by strict less-than. The owner's own 2 IMD exact-input buy is itself under the exception (own = 0), so its whole fee (the 71.75% launch rate at t = 0) is minted as retainClaims and its fill sits in the market band: own = fill + fee = 2e18 - 1 wei (the pool's rounding), still under the reserve. The exception then fires on the next buy whose payouts exceed both own and the PoolManager's IMD: on a quiet launch (no other buy inside the 90-minute window, whose 5M PLEA cap keeps every window buy's payouts under the 2 IMD the PoolManager holds) a 200 IMD buy after the window loses about 1.48 IMD of owner fee, 0.49 IMD of prize fee and 0.99 IMD of cashback to pool liquidity, and the claims path is skipped by the same branch, so nothing is paid later. The code does what it says; the agreed run-book step is off by rounding, and the closing buy must be strictly more than 2 IMD gross (2.01 IMD closes it, after which the same later buy is paid in ERC-6909 claims, as documented). No agreed number changes. Fix: document the close as a buy of more than 2 IMD gross (say 3 IMD) in THREAT-MODEL section 3 and the README, or count the closing buy's own fee in the rule (own + imdFee < PAYOUT_RESERVE), which keeps every agreed number. From audit_permissions; reproduced.

**Reproduction**

test/scratch/JudgeProbe.t.sol contract JudgeOpening (Fixture with afterSeed overridden to skip nothing): fund(OWNER); buy(OWNER, 2e18) through the fixture's BuyRouter with hookData = abi.encode(OWNER). Observed: hook.imdInMarket() + hook.retainClaims() == 1999999999999999999 < PAYOUT_RESERVE (2e18). skip(91 minutes); buy(bob, 200e18). Expected per THREAT-MODEL section 3: the owner receives 0.75% of the ~197 IMD fill (IMD or ERC-6909 claims), Seasons 0.25%, bob 0.5% as sIMD. Actual: PayoutsToPool is emitted; imd.balanceOf(OWNER), pm.balanceOf(OWNER, imdId) and imd.balanceOf(seasons) are unchanged and simd.byProject(bob, hook) == 0 (test_twoImdOwnerBuyDoesNotClose passes with those assertions). Contrast test_twoPointOhOneImdOwnerBuyCloses: buy(OWNER, 2.01e18) gives own == 2009999999999999999 >= 2e18, and bob's 200 IMD buy then pays the owner and bob ERC-6909 IMD claims.

### 3. Info: A Stacker credit that returns without pulling the approved cashback leaves a standing allowance over the hook's IMD (the wall reserve)

`src/PleaHook.sol:728`

```
        imd.forceApprove(address(stacker), amount);
        _requireGas(creditGas * 64 / 63 + CREDIT_RESERVE);
        totalCashback += amount;
        try stacker.credit{gas: creditGas}(trader, amount) {
            emit CashbackStacked(trader, amount);
            return;
        } catch {}
        imd.forceApprove(address(stacker), 0);
```

_payCashback approves the Stacker for exactly the cashback and resets the allowance to zero only on the catch path. On the success path the allowance is whatever the Stacker did not consume. Invariant 21 says a cashback credit can never reach the wall reserve because the allowance is per credit; that holds only while credit always pulls exactly `amount`. imd/acc's Stacker is a trusted external (THREAT-MODEL section 1), so this is defensive only: a Stacker build or a vault that returns instead of reverting while paused would succeed without pulling and leave an allowance equal to one cashback that it could later spend from retainedImd, while the un-pulled cashback sits in the hook as unaccounted balance (not in retainedImd) until the next swap's forceApprove overwrites the allowance. One forceApprove(stacker, 0) after a successful credit closes it. From audit_flow; reproduced.

**Reproduction**

test/scratch/JudgeProbe.t.sol test_noopCreditLeavesAllowance: default fixture; buy(bob, 100e18) (the opening exception); vm.etch the MockStacker's address with a contract whose credit(address,uint256) returns without a transferFrom; buy(alice, 100e18). Expected per invariant 21: imd.allowance(hook, stacker) == 0 after the swap. Actual: allowance == 491400491400491400 (0.5% of the 98.28 IMD fill), imd.balanceOf(hook) == 491400491400491400, hook.retainedImd() == 0.

### 4. Info: The 5M launch cap is checked on the gross pool output for exact-input buys but on the net requested amount for exact-output buys

`src/PleaHook.sol:459`

```
        if (!specifiedIsImd && buy) _checkMaxBuy(amount);
```

For an exact-input buy afterSwap calls _checkMaxBuy(unspecAmt), the pool's gross PLEA output including the 0.25% burn; for an exact-output buy beforeSwap calls _checkMaxBuy(amount), the requested net amount, while the pool fills amount + fee. The two definitions differ by 0.25%. Unreachable today: exact-output buys are refused while the Cabal lives (line 450) and the 90-minute window ends 31.5 hours before the earliest dead-man, so no agreed number changes. Noted so a future change that allows exact-output buys inside the window keeps one definition. From audit_flow; confirmed by code reading.

**Reproduction**

Code reading: beforeSwap line 459 passes `amount` (the requested net PLEA) for an exact-output buy; afterSwap line 525 passes `unspecAmt` (the pool's gross PLEA output) for an exact-input buy. An exact-input buy whose gross output is 5,000,000e18 + 1 wei (4,987,500e18 net) reverts BuyTooLarge; an exact-output buy of 5,000,000e18 net, were it reachable inside the window, would pass although the pool fills 5,012,531e18 gross.

### 5. Info: The launch window's 'extra fee of 70%' is 70% of the fill, i.e. 41.8% of what a buyer sends at t = 0; README and THREAT-MODEL do not say which base

`src/PleaHook.sol:462`

```
        uint256 fee = exactIn ? amount * rate / (BPS + rate) : amount * rate / (BPS - rate);
```

With rate = IMD_FEE_BPS + launchExtraBps() = 7175 at seed, an exact-input buy of 1000 IMD reserves fee = 1000e18 * 7175 / 17175 = 417.758 IMD and fills 582.242 IMD: the fee is 71.75% of the fill (70% extra plus 1.75% base) and 41.78% of the amount sent. The convention is consistent with the base fee (a share of the fill, R1-A3-2) and the agreed number 7_000 bps is unchanged, but README line 51 and invariant 20 say only 'an extra fee falling from 70% to 0%', which a buyer naturally reads as 70% of the IMD they send; test_launchFeeHasExactStartMidpointAndEndValues checks launchExtraBps() only, never the IMD actually taken from a window buy. Documentation only: say 'of the IMD that reaches the pool (41.8% of the amount sent at the open)' and add one assertion on a t = 0 buy's gross cost. From audit_math; confirmed by arithmetic.

**Reproduction**

Pure arithmetic from line 462: amount = 1000e18, rate = 175 + 7000 = 7175; fee = amount * rate / (10000 + rate) = 417758369723435225618; fill = amount - fee = 582241630276564774382; fee * 10000 / fill = 7174 (7175 with exact division); fee * 10000 / amount = 4177.
